Team News
10/29/2009
The final event of the 2009 season has been
postponed after a heavy fall snowstorm came through CO. The event has been
moved to Nov 7-8 at PPIR. However, due to various reason Snyder
Motorsports will probably not be able to make this event.

Snyder Motorsports driver Rick Snyder is starting the process of turning his
1997 BMW M3 Sedan into a NASA GTS3
racecar. Follow all the progress in the Build Log.

Snyder
Motorsports entered two teams/cars into the High Plains Raceway NASA
Enduro today. The enduro is an endurance race, this one
scheduled for 3 hours, that includes things like fuel stops and
driver changes. Compared to the normal 25 minute sprint race,
this is a race of attrition and consistency.
The
first team, Team Snymo, included Rick Snyder and John Clark who were
driving John's GTS3 BMW M3. This car was classified into the
E0 class (endurance races group the 30+ NASA classes into one of
seven enduro classes). We started out the day in 13th position
of 19 cars total and 4th of 4 cars in our E0 class. The
starting order was based on time of event registration which made
the start really interesting. During the race we got as high
as 5th place and as low as 18th overall using a two stop
strategy. Rick started the race and drove for 45 minutes, then
handed the car over to John for 90 minutes and then Rick took the
car to the finish over the final 45 minutes. At the end of the
race, we finished in 7th place overall and 1st in the E0
class!!!
The
second team, Team SoLow, was a single driver effort by Ashley Burt
who drove his Spec-944 for the entire race. This car was
classified in the E2 class. Ashley started in 15th position
overall and 4th of 6 cars in the E2 class. During the race,
Ashley got as high as 12th and as low as 19th overall using a two
stop strategy. Ashley came in at the first and second hour
marks for fuel, drink and oil. At the end of the race, Ashley
finished in 13th place overall and 4th in the E2 class.
Congratulations
to John and Rick on the class win and to Ashley on his solo driving
effort. Also, thanks to all the help we had in the pitlane.
Gary Miller, Nancy Clark, Joy Snyder, Sam Burt, Stacey Snyder and
Zak McMahan all played a big part in the success of both teams
today.

The
2009 NASA Championships at Miller Motorsports Park are over and Snyder
Motorsports did pretty well. This year we had two drivers
competing for national titles: John Clark in GTS3 and Gary Miller in
944-Spec.
In
the Saturday 944-Spec championship race, Gary Miller started 27th in
a field of 34 cars. On lap 13, Gary was battling for 28th
position when a missed shift heading into turn-1 damaged the
motor. Gary was forced to retire and finished in 29th
position. Complete 944-Spec results can be seen here: click
here (PDF file).
In
the Sunday GTS championship race, John Clark started 11th in a GTS3
class of 11 cars. Unfortunately, on the warm up lap John's
window net came loose forcing a quick but costly pit stop to fix the
issue. By the time he returned to the race the field over half
a lap ahead and even running times 3-4 seconds per lap faster then
his qualifying time he could not catch the field. John
finished in 11th position in the GTS3 class. Complete GTS
results can be seen here: click
here (PDF file).
As
this was the first National Championship event for both John and
Gary, it was both a learning experience and chance to compete
against some of the nation's best drivers at one of the best
facilities in the country. Plans are already in place to make
each driver faster for next year. Congratulations to both on a
great first Nationals.

Snyder
Motorsports is off to the 2009 NASA Championships (Sept
10-13). Held this year at Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele,
UT the NASA Championships is pinnacle of the 2009 NASA racing
season. This year, Snyder Motorsports drivers John Clark (GTS3
#95) and Gary Miller (944-Spec #10) will be fighting for the
National Championship in their classes. Please wish them the
best of luck! In addition, Rick Snyder will be driving the
Mazda pace car for the championship weekend.

Another
great weekend of racing at Pikes Peak International Raceway with
lots to report on.
First,
John Clark completed his Rookie requirements and was granted his
full Competition License. John had another strong showing this
weekend. He finished 2nd on Saturday and 1st on Sunday.
He's currently 2nd in the points race, 110 points out of
1st. John's results this weekend qualified for the NASA
National Championships at Miller Motorsports Park next month where
he will compete for the GTS3 National Championship.
Gary
Miller is still recovering from his knee injury but was at PPIR
competing in Time Trials to record his final two starts to qualify
for the National Championships next month. Gary is working
hard to get back in shape and the team will get his car sorted so
Gary can make a run at the 944-Spec National Championship.
Finally,
I'm happy to announce that Ashley Burt has joined Snyder
Motorsports. Ashley purchased Micah Thompson's 944 last year
and has been racing in the 944-Spec series this season as a
Rookie. However, his results tell a different tale with three
top five finishes in the last four races (including a 3rd and 5th
this weekend). With his start on Saturday, Ashley completed
his Rookie requirements and was granted his full Competition
License. We're very happy to have Ashley on board for the
future.

Sometimes
you are lucky and sometimes you aren't... Snyder Motorsports
was in Pueblo, CO over the July 11-12 weekend for the NASA Beach
Party race weekend. It was a very hot weekend with temps
hitting 105 degrees at times. The lucky part is that John
Clark dealt with an overheating engine problem in Sunday's main race
and registered a 5th place finish in GTS3, but avoided any lasting
damage. John also finished a solid 3rd in the main race on
Saturday.
The
unlucky part is that driver Gary Miller was sidelined for the
weekend after a "freak" accident which took out Gary's
left knee in the week leading up to the race. After several
trips to the doctor we are hoping Gary can return for the August
event at PPIR, but we won't know for a couple more weeks. Get
well soon Gary!
In
other news, Joy Snyder (wife of Rick) enjoyed her first full weekend
of HPDE Group2 in her brand new (to her) track car, a 2001 VW Beetle
turbo. Her Beetle has a rather "unique" paint scheme
that only added to the fun! Photos have been added to the 2009 Photos page.

Schedule
change notice! The August 8/9 event at Motorsports Park
Hastings has been moved to Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR).
The September 5/6/7 event at PPIR has been cancelled. Also,
NASA has added a single day at High Plains Raceway on Sept 27th and
cancelled the final event at Genoa Motorsports Park.
6/17/2009
NASA
journeyed out of state for the "Texas Grand Prix of Texoma
4" event held at Hallett Motor Racing Circuit, located just
east of Tulsa, OK. With all three Snyder Motorsports drivers
in action, it proved to be a very busy and good weekend.
In
944-Spec, Gary Miller (944-Spec #10) had some very close racing all
weekend with the one and only other 944-Spec car in
attendance. That lack of cars didn't stop these two from
battling nose-to-tail for every second they were on track
together. On Saturday, Gary qualified 2nd and finished 2nd in
the first race but came back to win the second race, this first of
his career! On Sunday, Gary qualified on pole for the class
and went on to win the 40-minute main race, his second win of the
weekend!
In
GTS, John Clark (GTS3 #95) had some very stiff competition with cars
from multiple NASA regions in attendance. John qualified and
finished 7th (of 7) on Race #1. In Race #2, he started 7th and
finished in 6th place (of 7) in class. Also, Rick Snyder ended
his extended absence from racing and returned to action on Sunday
driving John's GTS #95 BMW M3. In a wet qualifying session,
Rick qualified 2nd (of 5) in class. However, the sun came out
and dried the track and Rick finished 5th in Race #3 and Race #4.
All
in all a fantastic weekend of racing and what is a very interesting
and fun track. Pictures and video have been posted so check
out the 2009 Photos page and
the Movies page.

Congratulations
to John Clark (GTS3 #95) for his first victory and Pole Position at
last weekends NASA "Duck & Cover" event at Pueblo
Motorsports Park. On Saturday, John qualified and finished 4th
(of 4) in the GTS3 Main Race. That put John in the first
position for Sunday's Chase Race. The Chase Race started 17
cars from all five GTS classes (1-5) in decreasing order of lap
times from Saturday's races. All cars were started on a
theoretical finishing time for an 9 lap race. John held off
the field by a mere 0.153 seconds to claim the first overall and
class victories of his career. That win put him on Pole for
the final race of the weekend. John finished 5th (of 5) in
class to complete a very good weekend of racing.
4/22/2009
NASA
was at the new High Plains Raceway this past weekend for the "HPR
Season Opener" event, but Mother Nature had other ideas.
A massive snowstorm tore through Colorado on Friday dumping a
massive amount of snow. For those that made it to the track on
Saturday, it proved to be a very interesting day of racing.
Both Gary Miller (Spec-944 #10) and John Clark (GTS3 #95) sat out
the Saturday races since this was their first time at the track and
the conditions were just horrendous. On Sunday, Gary finished
18th (of 21) in the first race and 19th (of 23) in the second
race. John started 6th (of 6) and finished 6th in both the
first and second races of the day.

Congratulations
to John Clark for successful completion of the 2009 NASA RM
Competition School held today at Pikes Peak International
Raceway. John now holds a provisional NASA racing license and
will compete in his first race at the new High Plains Raceway on
April 18-19.
